NEWS- The assistant commissioner of Physical Education and Sports in the ministry of education and sports, Gilbert Orikiriza has warned Athletes from using narcotic drugs to enhance their capabilities during competition if they are to have a healthy and successful future.
Orikiriza made these remarks on Saturday, January 27th 2023 during the south western regional cross country championship that was held at Kigezi high school primary playground in the Northern division of Kabale municipality after 3 weeks of camping at Kabale Trinity College.
The event saw a total of 12 athletes from South Western Uganda qualifying for the national cross country championship that will be held in Tororo on February 10th 2024. They include six boys and six girls after emerging as winners.
Orikiriiza revealed that some athletes in Uganda have continuously used such drugs to enhance their body performances adding that the Ministry of Education is planning to construct an antidope testing laboratory in Uganda that will help to fight the vice. He further encouraged the winners to be disciplined in order to achieve their dreams in the sport.
On November 23rd 2023, Chemusto Janat was banned by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), a body created by the World Athletics to combat any and all forms of corruption and ethical misconduct within athletics after testing positive for the prohibited substance 19-Norandrosterone in violation of World Athletics Rules.
