NEWS– A 15 year old boy has been admitted at Rubuguri Health centre IV in critical conditions after his buttocks were seriously injured by baboon bites on Saturday morning.
The victim whose name has been withheld because he is a teen is a son to Tuwangye Duriyano of Nyabaremura cell in Rubuguri town council adjacent to Bwindi Gorilla National Park.
The young boy was attacked at around 8am when he tried to chase a troop of baboons out of their sweet Potato garden. He had been sent by his parents to go and guard the garden against destruction by wild animals from Bwindi national park, baboons and monkeys inclusive.
According to eyewitnesses, the troop leader of the baboons got violent and grabbed the kid, biting him several times at the buttocks as he tried to fight for his life until he was saved.
The Nyabaremura LC1 Chairperson, Mujuni Ananius has confirmed the incident to voice of Muhabura adding that the total number of people that have been injured since last month is three. He noted that the other two are from the neighbouring Nombe cell.
He noted that he is worried because the boy found no drugs at Rubuguri health center IV.
He also revealed that the community is now at risk of losing a life through baboon attacks that are escalating in Rubuguri town council but urged that efforts to eliminate them have commenced.

The Rushaga Park warden, Ronald Tindyebwa said that he has not yet received an official report about the incident despite seeing photos of the victim on social media. He declined to comment about the security threat being posed on communities living along the Bwindi Gorilla national park as of yet.
