KANUNGU- The territorial police in Kanungu have in custody three suspects allegedly for being in possession of government drugs illegally.
The suspects are; Musinguzi Alex 51 years, an Askari attached to Kambuga Hospital in Kanungu District, Mwesigwa Milton alias Emmanuel 30 year old businessman resident of Rwashamire East Central Ward Kajara Town council Ntugamo District and Kabyesiza Esau 28 year old sample transporter/lab technician at Kanungu HUB, resident of Bugongo cell Nuakatungulu Ward Kihihi town council Kanungu District.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate, It’s alleged that on 26/01/2025 at around 1700hrs Lt Gad Turyamureba an IO attached to Bukorwe battalion received information from his staff that when they were on patrol they came across one boda boda rider at river Ishasha boarder trying to cross to DRC, and when he saw them, abandoned the m/c and took off.
They became suspicious, the m/c was taken to Ishasha Updf barracks and on checking what was carried thereon, they found government drugs in a polythene paper. There were 5 tins of Panadol, 1 tin of chlorofenical, 2 boxes of coartem lumartem.
Maate told the press that the owner of the motorcycle was identified as Kyokwijuka George who told them that Musinguzi Alex was the one who had hired his m/c by that day and led to his arrest.
He was handed over to Kihihi police station with the exhibits and during the course of investigations, the two other suspects, Mwesigwa Milton alias Emmanuel and Kabyesiza Esau were arrested and Mwesigwa Milton was found with 81 syinges and Kabyesiza Esau was also found with gloves but these were not for the government.
According Police, statements were recorded, exhibits were exhibited and the suspects still in custody pending court of law once the case file is retrieved from the Rsa’s office.
