KAMPALA– The Three jailed Members of Parliament have been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala this afternoon on charges related to corruption scandals after spending two nights in detention.

The legislators including Cissy Namujju the Lwengo Woman MP,  Bunyole West MP Yusuf Mutembuli and Busiki County MP Paul Akamba arrived at Anti-Corruption  Court  in Kampala amid heavy security.

They are expected to appear before a judge. Trio MPs were driven to the Anti-Corruption in Nakasero opposite the Health Ministry for formal pleading to budget corruption charges slapped against them.

According to the charges seen by this reporter, the particulars of the charges are that the trio legislators on May 11 2024, at Hotel Africana, allegedly solicited from Mariam Wangadya, the chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission -UHRC, an undue advantage of 20% of the anticipated enhanced budget of her commission.

They had promised to exert improper influence over the decision making of the Budget, in consideration of the said undue advantage.

Their arrest came just days after President Museveni revealed a racket of officials at the finance ministry who colluded with other government agencies through Parliament to include their shares in the budgets.

Efforts to get a comment from the Police Spokesperson Fred  on the exact charges slapped on the legislators was futile, following the repeated phone calls on his known lines without answering  them.

Sources in security have indicated that at least 10 more officials are also expected to report at Kibuli’s CID Headquarters tomorrow as investigations continue.
