NEWS– Three people are currently under detention at Mitooma Central Police station to answer charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the three suspects as Dickson Natusiima, 18, Jordan Ainamani, 18, and Innocent Muhwezi, 34, all residents of Ncwera Village, Bugongo Parish, Bitereko Sub-county in Mitooma District.
Tumusiime also identified the deceased as Jovent Tukamuhebwa, 40, a businesswoman and resident of Bwera II Village, Rugarama Parish, Kigyende Sub-county, Mitooma District.
According to Tumusiime, the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at around 4:30AM in Bwera II Village, Rugarama Parish, Kigyende Sub-county in Mitooma District.
It is alleged that on the fateful day, at around 4:30 AM, the suspects, armed with machetes, attacked Tukamuhebwa in her house, robbing her of her mobile phone, household items, and an unspecified amount of cash before killing her.
Ignatius Amanya, the deceased’s son who was sleeping in the same house, ran out making an alarm, which attracted neighbors. As people were responding to the alarm, Turyamureba Purutazio encountered the suspects coming from the direction of the alarm, armed with machetes. The suspects stopped Turyamureba Purutazio and threatened to cut him, but he managed to escape.
Tumusiime confided to the press that a postmortem examination conducted at Mitooma Health Center IV revealed deep-cut wounds on the right side of the deceased’s neck.
According to the postmortem report, the cause of death was cervical spine injury and hemorrhagic shock.
