The Police in Kisoro District have confirmed the shooting deaths of businessman Africano Nteziyaremye and his wife, Peace Kyompeire, in a late-night attack in Kisoro Municipality.
The couple was shot dead last night, in Zindiro Cell, in Kamonyi Ward of Kisoro Municipality while reportedly returning home from their wholesale shop.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Nelson Tumushime told journalists that detectives and a canine dog unit examined the crime scene as investigations began, but no arrests had been made and the motive for the shooting remains unknown.
Preliminary reports indicate that the assailants, who were allegedly riding a motorcycle, opened fire on the couple’s vehicle near the gate. Both occupants reportedly died in the shooting.
The circumstances leading to the attack remain unclear, including whether the couple had been followed from their business premises or were specifically targeted.
Nteziyaremye was a well-known figure in Kisoro’s business community and he operated a major business establishment along Mosque Road, opposite Baby Coach, in Kisoro Municipality.
