The Minister of State for Trade Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi has urged Ugandan local producers and manufacturers to prioritize certification of their products to ensure quality and penetrate domestic and international markets.
Minister Mbadi was speaking at the official opening of the inaugural Regional Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) Trade show at Independence Park in Mbarara City.
The trade show organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives is a platform that brings together local producers for publicity, awareness creation of local products, and linkages with public and private sector players.
Gen Mbadi said that although compliance of local products to standards has increased over the years, a bigger percentage of Small Medium Enterprises still produce uncertified products.
“If BUBU is to yield greater results, our SMEs need to work closely with UNBS and NDA to certify their products,” said Mbadi.
The Minister pledged government support to the local industrialisation and pledged training for local entrepreneurship to ensure standardised quality products.
