The Bishop of North Kigezi diocese church of Uganda Rt Rev Onesimus Asimwe has urged Christians to focus on meaningful and developmental activities, reminding them that life is short and should be spent wisely.
Bishop Asiimwe made the remarks yesterday while speaking at the burial of the late Dr James Musinguzi Garuga whom he described as a man of vision and generosity whose works will be remembered in Kigezi Subregion and Uganda for generations.
The burial ceremony took place at Dr Garuga Musinguzi residence in Kiragiro – Kashojwa village in Rugyeyo Sub-county in Kanungu District, and was attended by thousands of people from all over the country.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa who represented the government as Chief mourner hailed President Yoweri Museveni for consistently supporting development sectors such as tea factories, coffee production and other projects pioneered by the late Dr Garuga and reassured tea nursery bed operators that they would soon receive their long-awaited payments.
Rt Hon Tayebwa further comforted Hon Salaam Musumba and the People’s Front for Freedom party, stating that government is actively following up on the case concerning their party leader, Dr Kiiza Besigye and revealed that court proceedings would soon resume to determine the possibility of his release from prison.
In his remarks, the president of Alliance for National Transformation Party Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu urged Kanungu residents to choose their leaders wisely if they want development, drawing Dr Garuga’s legacy of service and integrity.
Hon Salaam Musumba who led the Peoples Front for Freedom delegation, renewed her call for Dr Kizza Besigye release , describing him as a patriotic leader who deserves to be part of Uganda’s political dialogue.
The burial ceremony was attended by Members of Parliament,Local Leaders, Clergy, Civil servants and hundreds of residents was marked by tributes, songs of faith and prayers and Dr Garuga’s body was later laid to rest at his ancestral home amid an emotional farewell from family, friends and the community he dearly loved.

The late Dr Garuga Musinguzi is survived by mother Kaka Violet, wife Dr Peace Musinguzi, 4 children who include Alywin, Johnnie, Rowena and Philip and a number of grandchildren.
