The Police in Kisoro District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of UPDF personnel Private Kwesiga Samuel aged 32 year old attached to Nyanamo Detach under 35th battalion Kisoro District in an alleged suspected suicide by shooting.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the incident and said that the unfortunate incident occurred at at Kigyeyo village in Nyanamo Town Council on Kisoro District.
It is reported that on August 17th, he went to watch the English Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal around Nyanamo Trading Centre and later went back and told his colleagues that he was a bit tired and thus wanted to rest and entered his unipot and locked himself from inside.
However, the following morning, some people heard a gun shot coming from his unipot, something which made them suspicious thinking that he could have accidentally fired a bullet and as they rushed to his unipot while calling on him, there was no response.
Maate explained that upon going behind his house, and peeping through the window, they saw him lying in a pool of blood and they immediately broke into his house and found him dead in a pool of blood.
The area Police at Nyanamo Police Station were informed about the incident, the crime scene was visited, processed and documented by Police together with UPDF officers.
Statements were recorded from witnesses and exhibits which included a spent cartridge and the rifle with four magazines were recovered and exhibited and the body was conveyed to Kisoro General Hospital Mortuary for the postmortem examination, after which the body was handed over to the UPDF Command Structure for burial arrangements and investigations are at hand to ascertain the motive of this alleged suicide.
