Hon Frank Tumwebaze addressing the media

The Minister for Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries  Hon Frank Tumwebaze has announced that this year’s World Food Day celebrations scheduled for October 16th 2025 will take place at the Rwebitaba Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute, Kyembogo Station in Fort Portal City.

Minister Tumwebaze said this today while addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala where he revealed that the theme for World Food Day 2025 is “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,”.

Minister Tumwebaze said that the theme emphasizes global collaboration to build peaceful, sustainable, and food-secure futures and encourages diverse stakeholders to work together and aligns with the Food and Agriculture Organization focus on creating better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life.

The Rwebitaba Zonal Agricultural institute is one of the 16 research institutes spread across the country run by the National Agricultural Research Organisation. 

The Press conference was attended by thethe National Agricultural Research Organisation Director General, Dr Yona Baguma, and the Deputy Director General in charge of Agricultural Technology Promotion,  Dr Sadik Kassim and Martin Ameu from the Food and Agricultural Organisation.

World Food Day established by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1979 is celebrated annually on October 16th as a key global event focused on raising awareness about food security and hunger and highlights the ongoing challenges of hunger, malnutrition and the need for sustainable food systems.
