Namibia’s new President Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah

FOREIGN- Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was born on October 29th 1952 (72 years old), in Onamutai village, Oshana region and is a distinguished diplomat, visionary leader, and the first female President of the Republic of Namibia.

Early Life and Education

She hails from the Nandi and Shanduka clans and began her educational journey at St. Mary’s Mission School in Odibo. She later pursued higher education, earning a Master’s degree in Diplomatic Studies from Keele University in the United Kingdom in 1989.

Political Journey

Her political activism started early—at just 14 years old, she joined SWAPO in 1966, dedicating her life to Namibia’s liberation struggle.

In 1974, she went into exile and worked at the SWAPO headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia, from 1974 to 1975. She attended a course at the Lenin Higher Komsomol School in the Soviet Union from 1975 to 1976, graduating with a diploma in the work and practice of the communist youth movement.

Government and Leadership Roles

Over the years, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has served in various Ministerial positions which include:

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (1990–1996)

Director General of Women Affairs (1996–2000)

Minister of Women Affairs and Child Welfare (2000–2005)

Minister of Information and Broadcasting (2005–2010)

Minister of Environment and Tourism (2010–2012)

Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (2012–2024)

Deputy Prime Minister (2015–2024)

Vice President of Namibia (February 2024–March 2025)

Her leadership, dedication, and commitment to Namibia’s progress have culminated in a historic moment—her inauguration as Namibia’s first female President on March 21, 2025, a milestone that reflects the nation’s continued progress toward inclusivity and empowerment.
