NEWS- The territorial Police in Rukiga District are investigating circumstances under which a 40 years old man was shot dead after he critically injured a person and threatened to disarm the security.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that the deceased identified as Mutusi Kenneth was a resident of Nyakabengo village in Muhanga Town Council.
It’s alleged that the deceased has been a hardcore criminal terrorizing the whole community, by cutting peoples’ plantations, maliciously damaging their houses and even physically assaulting his neighbors.
However, on Thursday 23rd May 2024 at Nyakabingo cell in Muhanga Town council, the deceased together with others, planned to kill a 39 year old woman Rosette Kyarisima a resident of the same address for supporting Mutaki in a land dispute.
Maate explained that Mutusi allegedly successfully gained entry into Kyarisima’s house by use of an axe and a panga. Upon entering, he first grabbed the husband, then he proceeded by critically cutting Rosete using a sharp panga in the head, several times and she pretended as if was dead and they left her thinking that they had killed her.
After some time she crawled out to the banana plantation, where she called on her neighbour SIinga Twinomugabe who later called the Police that swiftly responded and took her to Muhanga Health Center II and pursued the attacker who threatened to attack them. That’s when was subdued and disabled.
Some of the victims who have been terrorized by the deceased include Jonah Kabalaga, female adult aged 82 years old a resident of the same address who lost her two acres by cutting them down in the hand of Mutusi and maliciously damaged her windows.
Others include Turyasingura David a resident of Kitaburaza cell in Muhanga Town council, who lost a banana plantation equivalent to 3 acres and reported to Muhanga Police station and Singa Twinomugabe who lost his 2 acre banana plantation.
Its reported that upon seeing the Police, he grabbed his sharp panga and a spear chased them, however in trying to subdue him he was shot in the thigh and he was later arrested and was also rushed to Muhanga Health Center II where was pronounced dead.
The scene was visited and documented, and the 2 guns of Ak47 carried by police officers who went for arrest have been recovered and exhibited and body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination as further inquiries continue under reference number CRB 187/2024 at Rukiga District Central Police Station.
The development comes at a time when the Police in Kabale District have in detention two of their own on allegations of murdering a local resident.
The Kigezi regional police spokesman ASP Elly Maate confirmed the arrest of Sgt John Tumwesigye, the officer in charge of Nyanja police post and his junior PC James Owomuhangi.
