NEWS- The Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances that led to an accident that claimed the lives of two people.
According to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region spokesperson, the accident happened on Sunday December 3rd 2023 at around 9am, at Kakabada cell along the Rukungiri Kanungu Road in Rukungiri District.
Maate told the press that the accident involved motor vehicles UBP 170G Toyota fielder Black driven by Kiiza Regan 29 year old resident of Kyoga Wakiso District, UFY 227J bajaj boxer ridden by Tukwasibwe Edward 22, resident of Kyatoko Eastern ward Rukungiri municipal and UFJ 593X bajaj boxer ridden by the deceased Akampurira Richard 23, male resident of Mabungu cell, Nyabitete parish in Bugangari sub county Rukungiri District
Maate identifies the second victim as Akatwijuka Raymond, a year male juvenile, resident of kagarama ‘B’ cell, Kyatoko ward, Eastern Division in Rukungiri municipality who was a passenger on a motorcycle
Maate told journalists that a motor vehicle UBP 170G was coming from Rukungiri Town heading to the Church for a wedding ceremony followed by another vehicle. On reaching the Church junction, it turned to the right to slope to the church premises, motorcycle UFJ 593X that was coming from behind at a speed hit the vehicle on front tyre and collided with an oncoming motorcycle UFY 227J.
It’s from this point that all (passenger and rider) fell at the road side, the rider of the motorcycle was injured and was rushed to Doctors case clinic where he died from.
Police visited the scene and documented it led by Cpl Oketayot and the team, postmortem was done and body handed over to relatives for burial as all vehicles were towed and parked at Rukungiri Central Police station yard pending IOV inspection as inquiries at hand.
In other news, the Police in Rukungiri District have initiated investigations into the murder of a 19 year old Musinguzi Robert, resident of Kagashe cell, Bugangari parish and Sub County in Rukungiri district.
According to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesman, the deceased was last seen in the bar of one Kamusiime Frank located at Bugangari trading Centre during the night of 30th November 2023 before he was then found dead in the early morning hours of 1st December 2023, body lying few meters from the said bar with visible bruises.
Police registered a case of alleged murder at Bugangari police post, scene of crime was visited and documented by a team of police officers from CPS Rukungiri, statement obtained from relevant witnesses.
Four suspects with whom were together during the same night were arrested to assist in investigations, body was taken to Rwakabengo health center III mortuary for postmortem examination.
