NEWS– The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda The Most Rev Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has appealed to the government to provide funds for the renovation of Nabumali High School in Bugisu Sub Region whose buildings are dilapidated.
The Archbishop made the appeal while on a visit to Nabumali High School which is one of the oldest schools in the country and being among traditional Schools earmarked for general renovation but to date no such activity has taken place.
“It’s been a joy today being back to Nabumali High School in a space of 11 months. When I visited the School last year, I pledged to be part of the advocates for the restoration of its lost glory”, The Archbishop said.
The Archbishop also noted, “It’s very unfortunate that the School has time and again been among traditional Schools earmarked for general renovation but to date no such activity has taken place Dormitories, laboratories, and staff houses need serious attention. The Ministry of Education and Sports should pick serious interest in this”.
The Headteacher Ms Margaret Nabudde informed the Archbishop that all dormitories, laboratories, and staff houses need serious attention, which prompted the Archbishop to appeal to the Ministry of Education and Sports to pick serious interest in its deplorable condition.
Nabumali High school started in 1912 by Anglican Missionaries and currently has 728 students of which 340 are boys and 388 are girls with 46 teachers on Government payroll, 25 are not on payroll and 64 non teaching staff, but only 4 are on payroll.
The Archbishop observed that Nabumali High School as one of the oldest traditional Schools needs to be given special attention in Human Resource and Infrastructure for it to regain its lost glory and thank the Old Students under Nabumali Old Students Association (NOSA) for their tireless efforts to revamp the School and said that he was delighted to be an honorary member of the Old Students Association.
Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu thanked Bishop John Wilson Nandaah of Mbale Diocese for his commitment to revive the School and promised to make a follow up and also thanked the Head Teacher, Board of Governors, PTA, Staff and Students for their team work to ensure sustainable development at the school.
