NEWS- The Territorial Police in Kanungu district in Kigezi Policing region have in custody a conductor of Baby Coach, identified as Farida Nabakooza, a 37 year old, resident of Bulenga, for trafficking of child refugees into the DRC and join a rebel group termed “Twiraneho” meaning “lets us fight for ourselves”.
According to the Uganda Police Spokesman SCP Fred Enanga, on the 6th November 2023, at around 8am, the suspect received the 5 children, and handed them over to the conductor of Baby Coach bus, who knew where to drop them.
Enanga adds that two victims including Muvula Christine, a 17 year old, refugee and pupil at United Nursery and Primary School, in Nakivale Refugee Camp, escaped and were reunited with their mother.
Three other victims identified as Bisesa Prince, aged 15, Tezero and Sabikoze are still missing and efforts are in place to locate them in coordination with the Eastern DRC officials and also have the suspects still at large arrested.
“As the Joint Security Agencies, we shall continue to monitor all spaces including refugee camps, which act as domains for recruitment and as collection centres for children, into the rebel ranks” said Enanga.
In other news, the Police has come out to reveal that both the Nyegenyege festival and the Royal Dinner, that took place in Busoga Region, ended peacefully.
SCP Fred Enanga now stresses that the Police is very grateful for the discipline and vigilance exhibited during both events and encouraged them to observe the same during the upcoming events.
“We want to thank all the fans and well-wishers, who took the courage to attend,” said Enanga.
The Police PRO noted that evellers and fans were vigilant although a few minor incidents occurred.
“We want to thank all visitors who travelled from different parts of the county, those from the region and across the world,” Enanga added.
SCP Enanga also confided to this publication that “During the period, a total of 42 cases were registered, which led to the arrest of 45 suspects, out of whom 10 were released on police bond and the remaining 35 , are to be arraigned in the courts of law”.
The cases include; theft of mobile phones (20), impersonation (03), fire outbreak (05), being in possession of Marijuana (03), stealing motor vehicles (01) forgery of tickets (12).
“To the organizers, we thank them for the huge amount of work done in preparing for the events like this. Our joint safety and security measures were felt and tested by the majority” he added.
