NEWS- The Bunawodya Clan (Kyiguga Kye Banawodya) gathered for a significant memorial service on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the home of their clan chairman, Umuguga Gregory Gidagui Mafabi, in Kado Branch, Bunawodya Village, Bukhambi Sub-county, Sironko District.
The service was held to honor and pray for clan members who have passed away since 1989 and to promote unity and forgiveness among clan members. The event was presided over by Rev. Fr. John Paddy Wandera.
Religious leaders in attendance praised Umuguga Gregory Gidagui Mafabi for his efforts in uniting the clan and organizing the service.
Rev. Fr. Wandera encouraged the Banawodya clan members to continue loving one another and to maintain their faith in God, emphasizing that God is the ruler of both the earth and paradise.
The Secretary General of the Banawodya Clan, Hajji Umar Nangoli, announced the creation of a SACCO to support clan members in financial need.
He noted that despite past misunderstandings, the clan is now united and experiencing joy under the leadership of Umuguga Gregory Gidagui Mafabi.
He also mentioned that the clan would soon hold general elections.
Hon. Amb. Wagidoso Charles Madibo, in his speech, expressed gratitude to Umuguga Gregory Gidagui Mafabi for organizing the service and fostering unity within the clan.
He urged clan members to continue supporting their leader and to cherish the bonds they share.
Umuguga Gregory Gidagui Mafabi welcomed the religious leaders and thanked the Banawodya clan members for their strong support.
He expressed deep appreciation for being entrusted with leadership, even in his absence due to a four-year hospitalization.
As the leader of 12 clans, he called on the Banawodya to remain united, loving, caring, and supportive.
He emphasized the importance of forgiveness and devotion to God as the clan strives for growth and development.
The guest of honor, Hon. Nambozo Florence, the Woman MP for Sironko District and State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, commended Umuguga Gregory Gidagui Mafabi for organizing the event and bringing the clan together.
She urged the Banawodya clan members to participate in government programs such as Emyooga and PDM to combat poverty in their homes.
She also advised parents to guide their children during the ongoing imbalu circumcision period to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Additionally, she encouraged men over 45 to get tested for prostate cancer, which has become a serious health issue in the country.
In conclusion, Hon. Nambozo urged the Banawodya clan to love and support their leader, Umuguga Gregory Gidagui Mafabi, who she described as a great leader with a deep love for his people.
