NEWS- The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna has emphasized the importance of providing protection to children with visual disabilities during their time with their parents.
Bishop Gaddie said this on Monday at All-saints Church Archdeaconry in Kabale district in the Diocese of Kigezi as the Bible Society of Uganda authorities were distributing Christmas gifts to visually impaired children throughout the greater Kigezi region.
The donated items consisted of essential food supplies such as rice, maize flour, bread, sugar among others.
In his sermon, Bishop Akanjuna said that children with visual disabilities are just like any other children, created and loved by the Lord hence urging parents to treat them as such, advocating for their education to ensure they have access to basic necessities.
Wycliffe Bariisa, the leader of the Bible Society of Uganda in Western Uganda, shared that more than 80 individuals with visual disabilities received Christmas gifts through the collaborative effort of the Bible Society of Uganda and the Diocese of Kigezi.
The ceremony, designed to bring joy to the blind community during the upcoming Christmas festival on Monday, was a heartfelt gesture.
According to the 2014 Census results from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Persons with Visual Disabilities (PVDs) constitute a significant population of over 2.1 million people living in Uganda.
