NEWS- An official attached to Uganda Wildlife Authority – UWA in Bugoigo in Buliisa district has died in a road accident.
According to the Kigungu village chairperson in Bugoigo landing site Bright Agaba, who is also an eyewitness confirmed the incident saying the UWA official lost his life in an accident that happened on Monday at around 8:00am in Bugoigo along the Biiso-Buliisa-Wanseko road.
Agaba, said an UWA official who was yet to be identified by press time was knocked dead by a speeding car registration number UBG 252F that was being driven by an Indian national who was heading to Buliisa while the deceased was riding a motorcycle heading to UWA offices.
The chairperson adds that, the body of the deceased was taken to Buliisa general hospital mortuary for postmortem examination, while the suspect was arrested and taken to Buliisa central police station.
Attempts to get a comment from the Buliisa district Police commander John Mwaule were futile since his known phone numbers were unavailable by press time.
In other news, residents from Kasasa and Ruyanja cells in Kibingo Ward in Hoima West Division are unhappy over the delayed rehabilitation of a broken bridge at Wambabya River.
The bridge was washed away by running water two months ago but to date, it has not been fixed leaving people who cross from Kasingo ward to Kibingo ward stuck.
Sarah Bainomugisa, a resident of Kisoro- Kasasa village said that she crosses the bridge everyday going to her gardens located in Kyakabale village, Kiduma ward.
Bainomugisa noted crossing this broken bridge is risky to her life but she crosses it since she has no other option adding that the situation has also affected school going children.
John Tumusiime another resident also expressed concern over delayed rehabilitation of this bridge adding that several residents from different villages are unable to cross from one village to another.
Robert Ruhigwa the Hoima West division Mayor said that the bridge and the road is not for the division adding that the bridge is supposed to be worked on by city Authority.
However, he said that the division leaders are in contact with the city leaders to get a way of fixing the bridge and called on the residents to remain calm, promising that soon the bridge will be worked on.
Bonny Kiiza, the Hoima city engineer has rubbished shoddy work claims adding that the city recently did simple rehabilitation to create accessibility but unfortunately because of the waters from River Wambabya due to heavy rains the bridge was washed away.
He noted the bridge needs over sh30 million to be constructed and install headwall and two Steel corrugated culverts explaining that the city is still looking for money adding once they get the funds the bridge will be fixed.
Across the country, several bridges have been washed away by floods caused by heavy rains.
