Parental Care Pupils jubilating

BUSHENYI– There was excitement among students of Bweranyangi Girls secondary school and pupils of Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi after winning the first edition of teacher’s debate network competitions.

The competition organized under the theme climate change in Uganda for primary category and the role of the youth in fighting against drug abuse for secondary category held at Mbarara municipal School in Mbarara city and St. Kagwa Bushenyi high school in Bushenyi District respectively.

“As teachers we have seen many cases of young girls and boys committing suicide others dropping out of schools because of drug abuse and also the amount of mental depression is increasing,” said Mr Eric Batuura the director teacher’s debate network.

He added” We want to train Ugandan youth through debate, drama and public speaking as one way of transforming young people to become responsible citizens. Our aim is to equip them with knowledge of problem solving skills, critical thinking on how to avert preventable challenges like climate change, poverty and drug abuse,”

The finals saw Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi floors down Coroma Primary School from Mbarara city and Mbarara municipal school came third respectively while   Bweranyangi Girls secondary school defeated St. Kagwa Bushenyi high school in finals of the senior category.

Mr Desmond Tayebwa the school head teacher of Parental Care said, though the competitions were tougher they managed to win because of commitment and they were focused.

“We want to thank our kids, they really prepared well and they were focused and the school for always supporting us, and we hope to do better in future,” he said.

He said team work, dedication, hard work and good teachers who are very competent are some of the core values of the success in every institution and Parental Care Primary School Bushenyi is not exceptional.

The win by Parental Care and Nursery Primary School Bushenyi in the junior category was sparked off by skills of serious debate on the future of learning and how human activities have negatively affected the  climate changes of this generation.

Some of the schools who participated in the junior category were Calvary Primary, Little Angel’s, Uganda Martyrs, Rwoburunga Primary school, Bweranyangi Junior Primary School among others.

In the secondary category were Ndekye secondary schools, Kitagata secondary school Kyeizooba Ss, Ruyonza School Kyabugimbi Ss and Vine high school in Rwentuha among others
