In a humiliating display of political irrelevance, Captain Mike Mukula’s fading grip on NRM politics in Eastern Uganda was laid bare today as he was conspicuously sidelined during Speaker Anita Among’s high-profile nomination event in Bukedea. The once-influential politician, now reduced to a desperate spectator, tried and failed to attach himself to Among’s momentum only to be completely ignored by her camp in a brutal snub that speaks volumes about his dwindling influence.

A Pathetic Bid for Relevance

Eyewitnesses described an awkward scene as Mukula loitered near the nomination venue, clearly hoping to hijack the media attention surrounding Among’s procession. But in a move that underscored his political isolation, Team Anita deliberately froze him out, refusing to acknowledge his presence or allow him any proximity to the Speaker. The message was unmistakable: Mukula is not part of their plans.

This is not the first time Mukula has tried and failed to position himself as an ally of Among. For weeks, his campaign has relied on cringe-worthy attempts to associate with her brand, from staged photo ops to vague claims of collaboration. Yet insiders confirm that Among’s camp has never taken him seriously, viewing him instead as a nuisance trying to cling to relevance.

A Campaign Built on Begging, Not Strength

While Mukula scrambles for scraps of attention, his opponent, NRM Youth League Chairman Calvin Echodu, has been steadily consolidating grassroots support. Echodu’s growing influence stands in stark contrast to Mukula’s flailing efforts, which increasingly resemble a man begging for a seat at a table that has long since left him behind.

Mukula’s tactics have exposed a fundamental weakness in his bid for NRM Eastern Vice Chairperson: he has no real base, no fresh ideas, and no organic momentum. Instead, he relies on outdated political theatrics showing up uninvited to events, name-dropping bigger figures, and pretending to be part of a movement that wants nothing to do with him.

The Final Nail in the Coffin?

Today’s humiliation may well be the breaking point for Mukula’s campaign. If being publicly shunned by Team Anita wasn’t enough of a wake-up call, the growing support for Echodu should be. The NRM’s Eastern Uganda leadership is clearly rallying behind fresh energy, leaving Mukula as little more than a political ghost still haunting the scene but with no real power or influence.

Captain Mike Mukula’s political career has been on life support for years, and today’s events should serve as the final confirmation: he is finished. No amount of forced smiles, last-minute alliances, or media stunts can change the fact that the NRM in Eastern Uganda is moving forward without him.

If he has any dignity left, he will bow out now before suffering an even more crushing and public defeat. Because one thing is certain Team Anita has already moved on, and soon, the voters will too.
