NEWS- China Henan International Corporation CHICO limited a company contracted to construct the Rukungiri-Kanungu-Ishaasha road on Friday morning, December 22nd 2023 handed over assorted food items to their employees in preparation for the forthcoming Christmas festivities.
The donation included maize flour and sugar all aimed at ensuring that the people they have worked with enjoy their festivities.
While handing over the items at CHICO headquarters in Kihihi Town council, Kanungu district, Hao Weidory hailed their staff for the commitment they have always exhibited in performing their duties.
According to Hao, the progress in their job has been made possible by these employees adding that it was paramount to appreciate their effort.
“Had it not been by your presence, I want to assure you that we wouldn’t have made any progress as far this construction is concerned” he said.
After the rewarding exercise, CHICO employees were treated to a friendly match with Kihihi Town Council football club. The dramatic match played at Kihihi High school playground saw Kihihi Town council winning 5 goals to one.
Hao narrated that the match was aimed at relieving their employees from the hectic daily accomplishments and a form of corporate social responsibility especially in the community they serve.
He added that the game was aimed at sealing the friendship they have enjoyed with the Kihihi Community as well as appreciating their support rendered to the company ever since they started the operations in the area. Each team went home with a goat as a gift of participation.
Ambrose Amanyire Mwesigye the Kanungu Resident District Commissioner who officiated at the football match appreciated CHICO for thinking about engaging the community with such a sporting activity that will bring the gap between the company and the community.
According to him, it was a good gesture to engage the community that has supported the company with labour, and any other forms of support towards executing their duties.
Amanyire pointed out that such a gesture can make the community to safeguard the road the company has constructed to stay for longer since they feel it’s their own hence helping the government on having the infrastructure serve its purpose.
The 78.5 kilometre project was launched the President of the Republic of Uganda His Excellence Yoweri Kaguta Musevei in 2018 was expected to be built within 3 years at a total of Ugx 207.8 billion.
