Church of Uganda Provincial Treasurer Balaam Muheebwa hading over the books

The Church of Uganda has today handed over 195 reams of paper to Finn Church Aid (FCA) for distribution in Nakivale Refugee Settlement to boost education services for children living in the camp.

The scholastic materials, donated by Mengo Senior School, were collected as part of the ongoing Church of Uganda Appeal launched in April 2025 to support refugees with tangible humanitarian assistance.

While officially handing over the items today in Namirembe in Kampala, the Provincial Treasurer of Church of Uganda, Balaam Muhwbwa reiterated the Church’s commitment to complementing government efforts in delivering holistic support to refugee communities.

“As a country, we have over two million refugees because of Uganda’s hospitable and accommodative refugee policy that provides a safe haven to the displaced. As Church of Uganda, we are complementing government efforts with support from our partners. This is in addition to our recent intervention in Nakivale where we delivered a consignment of relief items.”  Muheebwa said.

Muheebwa observed that each refugee camp has its own unique challenges facing children and the Church of Uganda is offering these scholastic materials to Nakivale Regugee Camp to help school-going children who are innocent victims of circumstances and unable to continue their education due to their difficult situations.

While receiving the donation Robert Bahenyangi, the Consortium Manager at Finn Church Aid, expressed gratitude to Church of Uganda for its continued support and partnership.

“Church of Uganda continues to be a reliable and dependable team member of our Alliance as humanitarian organizations. These scholastic materials will go a long way in ensuring that children have access to education and in promoting learner retention in the existing Schools. The choice of Nakivale is strategic as it currently hosts the highest number of refugees in the region,” Bahenyangi said.

Today’s handover follows an earlier intervention on May 26, 2025, when Church of Uganda, through its Directorate of Household and Community Transformation (HCT), dispatched a consignment of relief items to Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Isingiro District, under Ankole Diocese.

The ongoing humanitarian effort is part of the Church’s broader commitment to support refugees fleeing conflict from countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Burundi.
