NAIROBI- Church of Uganda’s Directorate of Household and Community Transformation (HCT) coordinators have arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, this evening for a 5 days benchmarking and learning visit.
The delegation, comprising of 41 officers from different Dioceses of Church of Uganda, and some Provincial Secretariat Staff is led by the Provincial Secretary, Rev. Canon William Ongeng, and coordinated by the Director of HCT, Rev. Andrew Agaba.
The Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, The Most Rev Dr Jackson Ole Sapit, is expected to address the delegation tomorrow.
During their stay, they will hold several sessions with various departments of the Anglican Development Service (ADS) and also visit different ADS projects in Eastern Kenya.
The team will also visit the Christian Impact Mission in Yatta Village to learn from their demonstration farms that are changing lives for small holder farmers in Machakos through climate smart Agriculture.
They will also participate in capacity-building sessions in agribusiness management that will be facilitated by Christian Organizations Research and Advisory Trust of Africa (CORAT Africa).
The Managing Director of CORAT Africa, Dr. Oliver Kisaka, is expected to give a keynote address during the visit.
According to Rev. Canon William Ongeng, delegates are expected to learn from best practices within the Anglican Church of Kenya.
“This visit is an incredible opportunity for our officers to learn from successful models of community transformation and agribusiness management. We are hopeful that after the visit, the participating Diocesan officers will go back with changed mindset and bring change to our communities and Christians.” Rev Canon William Ongeng says.
He adds, “We also expect that they will be able to design suitable programs and applying the knowledge acquired during the visit to transform their communities”.
Rev. Andrew Agaba says the visit is very strategic by bringing together different potentials from the province to learn new approaches and models of community transformation. He says, this will enhance the capacity of Church of Uganda team to do holistic development in their communities.
“Our objective is to blend professional excellence with spiritual passion to create sustainable change in our communities. We expect our officers to gain practical skills and insights that will empower them to drive meaningful transformation in their respective Dioceses,” says Rev. Andrew Agaba.
The visit is organized by Church of Uganda’s Directorate of Household and Community Transformation in collaboration with Anglican Development Services (ADS).
The visit will also strengthen the relationship between Church of Uganda and CORAT Africa, a Pan-African not-for-profit organization established in March 1975 to enable effective leadership, management, and accountability of churches, church-related bodies, and Christian organizations in a professional and Christian manner.
At the 27th Provincial Assembly of Church of Uganda held in August 2024 at Uganda Christian University, it was resolved that the partnership between the two institutions be strengthened to foster sustainable change in organizations.
According to the Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, Rev. Canon William Ongeng, strengthening this partnership will enable Church of Uganda to achieve its mission of transforming lives through effective community programs and spiritual growth.
