OPINION- The commercialization of politics in Uganda has been a story of the day mostly when it comes to the season of campaigns and general elections after every five years.
Speaking to some of the politicians and other political analysts, they most of them blame the ruling government which has failed to provide civic education to Ugandans and teach them education about the roles of their leaders with they say that it is done deliberately.
Speaking to the Head of Public Relations of the Electoral commission Mr. Julius Musinguzi morning through an interview, he alleges that the involvement of money in the elections of Uganda has become a vice of the day that it is hindering services to the people.
Musinguzi say that most of the politicians acquire loans from financial services and invest them in campaigns buying voters, and after they win, they don’t have any other priority apart from denying services to the people.
He has therefore urged Ugandans mostly the youth who ought to cause violence in campaigns to hold peaceful campaigns and respect each other from both sides.
Speaking to Aloysius Mugarura who is the Chairman Peoples Front for Freedom/Forum for democratic change in Rukungiri District, told our reporter that all the denial of Civic education to teach Ugandans is done deliberately by the ruling government. Mugarura say that since all the government systems were captured, the only left hope is only prayers.
The former Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri District Hon Betty Muzanira say that the involvement of money in politics through buying voters also derail the development of sustainable parliamentary governance in Uganda. Hon Betty say that even the article also indicates that vote buying and selling are a reality.
Speaking to some one of the local leaders in Rukungiri District Sunday Rwakinwa, he says that the commercialization of politics and elections in Uganda is to be blamed on the side of voters who get deceived to vote for a leader for five years for small things like a packet of salt, 1,000sh and other small useless things. Rwakinwa has also expressed the way Ugandans are poor and that these politicians take this chance to promise Ugandans the things that they will not for them.
He therefore says that this affects the accountability relationship between the electors and this is the time Ugandans should open their eyes and elect leaders who will deliver services to their communities.
