KAMPALA- A section of Legislators have urged President Museveni to confiscate the phone of his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba over his recent remarks that Uganda will never be ruled by a civilian, rather soldiers, describing such remarks as reckless and detrimental to Uganda’s democracy.
They made the remarks in media interviews at Parliament, although some NRM MPs on their part welcomed the move by Muhoozi to end his Presidential bid, arguing that the pronouncement has left the Opposition in shambles, because allegations of nepotism that have been labelled against President Museveni have been killed.
“We advised the President, to confiscate his son’s phone. He is making so many mistakes, he is going to continue embarrassing the father. But the President because his name is Tibuhaburwa (one who isn’t advised), he didn’t consider our advice. We have children born in this generation, we confiscate their phones. Museveni, you confiscate your son’s phone. The man never listens, now do you see the shame he has brought to his father. The President is past the age of being embarrassed by his children,” said Medard Ssegoona (Busiro East).
Ssegoona wondered whether Muhoozi is aware of how unlawful his remarks about Uganda being ruled by soldiers, arguing that only someone who has done things with impunity can make such remarks.
“Let me hope that he knows that what he said is unlawful but he can do so with impunity given the fact that his father is the President, so he can break any laws. By mentioning that a Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) has endorsed his father, are you not embarrassed as a Ugandan? A serving Army officer endorses a political participant in a politically partisan and partially political context. There must be something fundamentally wrong, one, with the person making the statement, two with the endorsee himself who is the Commander in Chief and us the country,” remarked Ssegoona.
Sseggona also thanked Muhoozi for endorsing President Museveni, arguing that this gives the Opposition an opportunity to compete with someone well versed with the rules of the game, and proposed the return of Muhoozi back to the barracks with all other soldiers if military rule is what they want to impose on Ugandans.
“I want to thank my brother for leaving us to deal with someone we are familiar with beating because we have ever won Museveni at elections. The game is always interesting if you are dealing with someone familiar with the rules of that particular game. Or Muhoozi to say he is now supporting the dad and called on his followers to do the same of course it is unlawful but in their home, breaking the law hasn’t just started and it didn’t start with him. Their home is full of violators of the law,” argued Sseggona.
John Musila (Bubulo East) mocked the people who had abandoned NRM to support Muhoozi, saying this group has been nipped in the butt and parised Muhoozi for taking the right direction of backing the father.
“There are those who are lumpenproletariat, people who simply think that they can benefit out of chaos-opportunists. In political language, we call them lumpenproletariats. And it isn’t good for the country. Muhoozi defuses from what other people were saying from the Son, it is a kingdom, it is hereditary, now, where are they? Nipped in the butt, clearly. So to me, he has taken the right direction and that is the way to go,” noted Musaila.
“The other issue, I have been persistent, I told you that I came to Parliament and swore my allegiance to the NRM Party and the President of Uganda, so, until he gives me direction as my Party head, where would I go? Opposition is now in shambles, they should now fold their mats and simply chicken out into the kitchens. Because the reasons for which they would stand against that he is bring the son, they are playing comedy,” added Musila.
Charles Tebandeke (Bbale County) asked Ugandans not to mistake Muhoozi’s pronouncement as an end to his Presidential ambitions, arguing that the team fronting him realized he still needs more teaching on essence of President, thus the need to return him to the bakery for more baking before he is finally unveiled to the Presidency.
“For Ugandans who think Muhoozi has abandoned the idea, no, it has just been put on the bakery stove, so the bakery hasn’t made him proper to be the President, but it is what they are fostering on. So, we need to stand as Ugandans and defend our rights and return the rule of law that is a unit of respect to democratic rule,” said Tebandeke.
He also termed Muhoozi’s remarks that Uganda can only be ruled by the military and his endorsement of his father as mere confusion, arguing that matters of who shall be President can’t be determined by one person, and neither can they be determined by mere feelings and affiliations.
“No, the issues of elections, who should be president is a constitutional right. What General Muhoozi said in terms of endorsing the father, I think it is non-understandable. You can’t interpret it in Latin or any other language. Because we would say it is magic and it has divine powers where it could be following the slogan of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but it lacks the Holy Spirit. Because someone with Holy Spirit can’t endorse such orders that are volatile to the constitution,” added Tebandeke.
