KISORO- The Police in Kisoro District have registered a fatal accident where a 16 year old girl identified as Lydia Mbakemiye a Democratic Republic of Congo national from Kiwamgya in North Kivu Province, lost her life.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the accident that occurred on Monday 21st April 2025 at Nyakabande Refugee Transit Center compound in Kisoro Municipality.
Maate explained that the accident involved motor vehicle registration number UAU 728X belonging to UNHCR driven by Kule Mosheni a mukonjo and resident of Mpondwe in Kasese a female pedestrian.
It’s alleged that the motor vehicle above was from Kisoro UNHCR office based in Kisoro Town Center going to Nyakabande Refugee Transit Centre to pick Mobilets and on entering the gate of the Transit Centre, the driver stopped as the compound was full of refugees doing screening and registration.
Maate explained that the way was created for the Truck to pass and as the driver started the vehicle to move, some refugees started a scuffle to go back to the line for registration, and that’s how the deceased was pushed backwards and fell in the rear tires of the truck that passed on her and died on spot.
The scene of the accident was visited by Kisoro District Traffic Officer Kushaba Michael and team and the body was taken to Kisoro General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination and the motor vehicle is currently parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending IOV inspection as investigations continue.
