ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesman

NEWS- The Police in Kabale District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified male adult whose decomposing body was on Sunday morning discovered in Kabisha village in Kyanamira Sub county.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate told journalists that Kyanamira LC II Chairman Orikiriza Edward informed the Police at Kyanamira Police Station that they have found a decomposing dead body, of unknown male adult hanging in the house under construction which belongs to Rev Father Austin Christmas.

Maate explained that while on inspection of the house under construction on 5th March 2024, Fr Austin felt bad smell from it and instructed the Parish Catechist Karemire Silvano to make a search of what might have died from there that was smelling badly.

Maate explained that the Catechist never bothered until today 10th March 2024, when a young boy who’s passing nearby had the smell and insisted on going inside to see what smelled. Upon climbing the ceiling, he found the said decomposing dead body hanging on the rope and thereafter informed the Catechist who also informed the LC II Chairman and Police was accordingly notified.

Maate explained that a report of suspected suicide was registered and later the OC Kyanamira informed the District CID officer who led a team to the scene which was examined and documented and the decomposing body was removed from the rope and conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.

Maate said that this has prompted the Police to start inquiries to establish the cause of death and even identify the relatives of the deceased who can give proper particulars.

The Police have since asked the general public who have a missing the dear one, should visit the Hospital Mortuary so that they can help in identifying the deceased and taken for a decent burial and the case was registered under reference number CRB 212/2024.
