NEWS- The Chairman of the Electoral Commission Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi has announced the roadmap for the by-election for Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament to take place on 21st March 2024 and campaign will be for one week.

While announcing the Roadmap, the Electoral Commission Chairman said that they have taken a significant step towards enhancing Dokolo District Electoral process by launching its roadmap and how it will be conducted for the upcoming by-elections.

Justice Byabakama Mugyenyi launched the election activities program today morning at Dokolo Technical School and revealed that the early release of these plans is to provide ample time for political party players and stakeholders to prepare adequately for a smooth, free and fair electoral process.

Justice Byabakama Mugyenyi announced that the campaign period is scheduled for 13th -19th March shortly after the nomination of candidates on 11th and 12th March 2024 at Dokolo District Headquarters. 

Dokolo District Woman Representative seat became vacant on January 18th 2024, following the death of Hon Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal on January 18 in an Indian hospital and was laid to rest on January 27 in Kole district.

According to the by-election roadmap issued by the Electoral Commission chairperson today February 12th 2024, voters in Dokolo District will also elect the Subcounty councilor for Adagmon Parish, Sub county male councillor forSubcountycounty, Sub county councilor youth male for Bata Town Council, Sub county councilor woman for Agoga Parish in Kwera, Sub county, councilor for Apyen-nyang Parish and Sub county councilor for older person if Kwera Sub county. 

Justice Byabakama Mugyenyi said that the commission received the notice for the vacant position for Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament on 24th January 2024 at the time the Commissioners were out of office and therefore the statutory deadline for holding the by-election is 24 March 2024.

The Electoral Commission has therefore warned candidates against holding rallies on public roads and appeals to political parties to make their voters observe rules and regulations during the by-election.

Justice Byabakama Mugyenyi also announced other activities within the process which include updating the voter register which has started today February 12th and will end on 15th February and displaying names of voters scheduled for February 21st February – 1st March 2024.
