NEWS- As the elections for Federation for Uganda Medical Interns draws to close, Dr. Brian Tumwakire who is contesting to take up the mantle of the Chairperson for Welfare has pledged to turn around the well being of the Medical Interns during his term of office under the vision of, ‘Unity in Diversity for Better Welfare for All’.
“As we navigate the challenges of our internship journey, let us recognize the transformative power of unity and collective action. In this pivotal moment, we stand at the threshold of creating a better experience for ourselves and those who come after us. The time has come to demand more – more support, more resources, and more empathy,” Dr. Tumwakire said.
He noted that he will together with other Federation for Uganda Medical Interns and together all the members, embark on the year 2024/25 with focus on welfare enhancement through a number of ways.
With emphasis on welfare for Medical Intern, Dr. Tumwakire said that he has on his sleeves several approaches which include cultivating a culture of empathy and understanding, where every voice is heard and valued and championing innovative solutions for fair and timely allowances since their worth isn’t measured by delays.
Dr. Tumwakire also said that he will advocate for strategic partnerships to enhance the Uganda Medical Interns working conditions, prioritizing well-being and safety and ignite a supportive community, fueling mental health initiatives and resources for a resilient intern cohort, by embarking on a journey of transparent communication, ensuring every Medical Intern is informed and empowered.
He said that there is need to break down barriers and build a vibrant community and asked the members to elect leaders whom they can engage not just being represented which will usher in a new chapter in Internship journey marked by unity, understanding and vibrant leadership.
Dr. Tumwakire in not new to leadership positions and has in the past served as a Youth Leader in the National Youth Council structure and was also Kampala International University representative to Seed Global Uganda.
While at University, Dr Tumwakire served as a Class Ambassador for Association of Medical Students of Kampala International University and an Association President for United University students and graduates from Kanungu District as well as President of Kanungu KIU Students Association.
He also served as the Interim President for Association of Higher Education for Students Financing Board (HESFB) KIU western campus and Deputy General Secretary for Association of Higher Education Students Financing Board for Kampala International University.
The election for Federation for Uganda Medical Interns is due tomorrow September 20th 2024, and Dr Tumwakire who is currently at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital is looking forward to victory to enhance medical interns welfare.
