KABALE- The Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Wakiso District, Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, has urged the youths in Kigezi Region to avoid teenage pregnancies and drug abuse, stressing that such may spoil their future.
Kamugisha was speaking as an alumnus of St. Mary’s College Rushoroza during the official opening of the three day Kabale Diocesan Annual Youth Conference 2024, where over 400 youths and children gathered at the School premises in Rushoroza cell, Southern Division Kabale Municipality.
Sheikh Kamugisha, the hopeful Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament emphasized the importance of making responsible choices and avoiding behaviors that can hinder their development.
Sheikh Kamugisha highlighted the detrimental effects of early pregnancies on both the individuals involved and their communities pointing out that they often result into a cycle of poverty and limited opportunities for the young mothers and their children.
The Deputy RCC urged the youths to focus on their education and personal growth in setting a strong foundation for their future endeavors.
Sheikh Kamugisha emphasized that the path to effective leadership begins with making the right choices in one’s youthful stage by avoiding teenage pregnancies and drug abuse. He’s optimistic that through such, the youths can lay a solid foundation for their personal and professional development.

Sheikh Kamugisha also addressed the growing habit of drug abuse among the youths, urging them to focus on healthy living methods since addiction to these drugs can result into negative consequences.
He instead encouraged them to seek for healthy and constructive activities that can help them develop essential life skills in preparation for their future roles as leaders.
“You can only be a future leader if you preserve yourself, shunning evil acts like sniffing petrol, smoking marijuana and excessive drinking of alcohol.

Sheikh Kamugisha added that being a Leader is a Sacrifice rather than a Luxury since Leadership is about willingness and a journey hinged on Natural wisdom like King Solomon who sought Knowledge from the Almighty.
Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha further rallied Primary Seven Vacists to begin identifying their Capabilities in Leadership as they join Secondary Level Education stressing that Historical Leaders in the Kigezi sub Region begun their career when they were still Students.
He also remarked that accepting Criticism is Vital for one to become a good leader because it is through this that one discovers the best of their Capacity in solving African Challenges as often highlighted by President Museveni.
