NEWS- The Police in Kabale district have launched a manhunt for the driver of UBN753S, a black Fuso Fighter, who fatally struck a pedestrian in Kitumba along the Kabale-Katuna road.
The tragic incident occurred on 17th January 2024 at around 9:50 am. The unidentified driver fled the scene after hitting and killing 10-year-old Turiina Mariam, a female juvenile from Kitumba sub-county in Kabale district.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, the driver was heading to Katuna from Kabale town when the accident happened. After hitting one pedestrian out of the three crossing the road at Kitumba, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
Upon notification, police visited the scene, documented it, towed the vehicle to Kabale police station for inspection, and took the victim’s body to Rushoroza hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Maate confirmed that inquiries are underway, and the case has been officially registered at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number TAR 006/2024.
Relatedly, one person died on the spot in a single fatal accident in Kisoro district at Natete trading centre along the Kisoro-Bunagana road.
This tragic incident transpired on 17th January 2024 at around 4am at Natete trading centre.
The deceased has been identified as Ntirenganya George, a 32-year-old resident of Gahembe village, Nyakinama sub-county, Kisoro district.
According to the police statement, the deceased was riding a bajaj motorcycle with registration number UES196V. When he reached Natete trading centre, he knocked a heap of maram that was poured on the roadside, fell down, and died on the spot.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, the scene was visited and documented by PC Mugisha and the team. The body was taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem examination and the motorcycle was parked at Kisoro CPS for IOV inspection.
Maate further informed our reporter that inquiries are underway to ascertain the cause, as the case was officially registered at Kisoro Central Police Station under reference number TAR 03/2024.
