The Veterinary officer made the call today afternoon in an interview with Radio Messiah which is following reports that the district may face a drought spell.

To prepare for drought, Dr. Kibaya said farmers need to embrace Silage method of preserving nutrients in green fodder grasses, leaves, and other green plants by fermenting and storing them for round- feeding of animals in addition to storing water for the animals to avoid walking long distances.

However, he reported fears that the drought may affect the Parish development program since most beneficiaries 70% had selected animal rearing as their enterprises.

Meanwhile Dr. Kibaya revealed that his office was investigating foot and mouth disease in Kabirizi and Katwe cattle areas among others.

He asked farmers to be vigilant and keep reporting any strange animal disease, consult extension workers in different sub-counties for redress.

An increase in drought events associated with rising temperatures indicates that Uganda is facing a growing challenge from climate variability and this challenge can be addressed by planting more trees to restore nature.
