The First Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has reaffirmed the importance of accelerating the East African integration agenda.
Rt Hon Kadaga who is also the Chairperson of the East African Community Council of Ministers emphasized that, while progress has been made in establishing the Customs Union and Common Market, greater efforts are required to advance the East African Monetary Union.

She noted that a common currency would significantly reduce the cost of doing business, enhance regional competitiveness, and deepen economic integration among Partner States.
Rt Hon Kadaga made the remarks while meeting the East African Business Council (EABC) who paid a courtesy call on her in Kampala.
The East Africa Business Council delegation was led by the Vice Chairperson of the Board, Simon Kaheru, and included the Executive Director, Ahmed Farah, alongside members of the Secretariat.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the East African Business Council and the Government of Uganda in advancing regional integration, trade facilitation, investment promotion, and private sector development across the East African Community.
During the engagement, Ahmed Farah highlighted East Aaftica Business Council’s continued advocacy to address Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) that constrain intra-EAC trade and increase the cost of doing business across the region.
He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to promoting the East African Community as a single market and investment destination, while working with Partner States and the private sector to improve the regional business environment.
Mr Farah also briefed Minister Kadaga on preparations for the inaugural East African Business Council Chief Executive Offices and Investment Forum, a flagship regional platform that will bring together business leaders, investors, capital providers, policymakers, and development partners to strengthen investment, industrialisation, and regional value chains across East Africa.
Minister Kadaga commended the East African Business Council for its continued leadership in championing the interests of the private sector and acknowledged EABC’s contribution to promoting trade, investment, and policy dialogue across the region.
She reiterated the Government of Uganda’s commitment to working closely with East Africa Business Council and other stakeholders to support the implementation of the EAC integration agenda and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
The courtesy call reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Government of Uganda and the East African Business Council and underscored the importance of sustained public-private dialogue in addressing regional trade challenges, promoting investment, and advancing East Africa’s vision of a fully integrated, competitive, and prosperous regional economy.
