NTUNGAMO- As clock clicks to 2026 when Ugandans are looking ahead to choose their leaders from the top leadership (President), Ugandan electorate have been urged to prioritize service delivery-centered candidates who are committed to enhancing public services and addressing community needs.
In a recent town hall meeting with members of the community at various religious institutions and community meetings, Hon Byenjeru James Tukahirwa aka Hunter who is eyeing the Kajara County Parliamentary seat made the revelation.
Byenjeru Hunter emphasized the importance of electing leaders who not only understand the challenges facing residents but also have a proven track record of effective public service.
“We need leaders who are dedicated to listening to our concerns and taking actionable steps to improve our lives,” said Byenjeru Hunter Tukahirwa.
Citing his 32 years of civil service, Byenjeru told the community members that he understands what hurts the people since he has served them in different capacities and hence can equally have their solutions.
“In those years, I worked with numerous individuals who are currently well positioned and I want to assure you that this will ease my role as a legislator to lobby for you” he said.
The aspiring legislator narrated that his strategy is to reach out to the community always so that he takes their ideas since they’re the ones who know what hurts them.
“Am not looking for the job but to ensure service delivery. In my 32 years, I served with humility and left honorably, this is how I will serve you once am elected the Kajara County Member of Parliament.
To confirm that am servant leader, I have already started putting up a radio station that is soon hitting the airwaves, and this will help to reduce competition in service delivery as well as educative programs to the community.
A Focus on Community Needs
Attendees at the meeting discussed various issues affecting residents, including access to healthcare, education, transportation, safe and clean water and public safety.
Many expressed frustration with current leadership, citing a lack of responsiveness and transparency in addressing these critical areas.
“Electing service delivery-centered leaders means choosing candidates who prioritize our needs over political agendas. We need leaders who will work collaboratively with the community to find real solutions” one of the attendants told the aspiring legislator.
Byenjeru called on the residents and congregation to listen to all that are set to contest with him, and that they will realize that that he’s centered to their commitments to service-oriented leadership.
Byenjeru is currently leading the race for who will replace the incumbent Michael Kamugisha Timuzigu who seems uninterested in seeking re-election for the same seat.
