Engineer Jornard Asiimwe Akiiki, a budding Youth

The National Resistance Movement Chairperson for Western Region, Eng Jornard Asiimwe Akiiki, has urged independent candidates to work together with NRM flag bearers as they rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in next year’s general elections.

While speaking at a meeting held yesterday November 1st at Kanungu District Headquarters Council hall, Eng Asiimwe called for unity and teamwork within the party,pledging to organize a retreat for Members of Parliament after the elections to equip them with leadership and development strategies.

He cited his person’s initiatives in Karamoja, where he helped establish four factories benefiting over 3,000 people through a Ugx 17 billion lobbying effort, as an example of practical leadership.

Kinkizi West Constituency Member of Parliament  Hon James Ruugi Kaberuka raised concerns over the misuse of Nyekundire funds and the delayed competition of key infrastructure projects such as the Rukungiri -Kanungu and Buhoma-Nteko roads, as well as the persistent water problems in parts of Kanungu District.

District Chairperson Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo and NRM Woman Flag bearer Hon Betty Kataba Mutabazi also highlighted challenges affecting tourism roads, tea nursery bed operators and health services in remote areas like Kinaba – Mpungu among others.

In response, Eng Asiimwe Akiiki promised to address the raised concerns and strengthen NRM structures ahead of the 2026 elections.

Meanwhile an independent candidate who was recently nominated for the Kanungu District LC 5 Chairperson seat, Charles Asiimwe Bamuhata has officially withdrawn from the race in a favor of strengthening the National Resistance Movement structures and supporting the party’s flag bearer.

The announcement was made yesterday during a reconciliation meeting between independent candidates and NRM flag bearers held at the district headquarters council hall which was chaired by the NRM Western Region Chairperson Eng Jornard Asimwe Akiiki.

Bamuhata, who also serves as a coordinator for the Patriotic League of Uganda under the National Resistance Movement said his decision followed thorough consultation with party leaders.

He revealed that he has been assigned to lead mobilization efforts for both NRM and PLU in Kanungu District, targeting the recruitment of eight members per subcounty, twenty five per village and two per parish to strengthen support for President Yoweri Museveni and the party.

Welcoming his decision, the NRM flag bearer for the LC 5 Chairperson seat, Rev Justus Tibesigwa commended Bamuhata for demonstrating loyalty and discipline by stepping down to support the party and also appreciated other primary contestants, including Henry Mwongyera and Caleb Kipande, for maintaining unity with on the NRM and not running as independent.

In his remarks, Eng Asiimwe Akiiki thanked all participants for attending the meeting and emphasized the importance of integrity and team work among party leaders and warned against false security reports and political bribery, urging local security officers, including the District Internal Security Officer, to remain professional and avoid being compromised.

Eng Asiimwe Akiiki further pledged continued guidance to ensure peaceful coordination and unity as the NRM prepares for next year’s elections.
