Vanansio Babweyaka, a renowned business tycoon, has been eulogized by former Prime Minister Ndugu Ruhakana Rugunda as a person who supported both education and the needy throughout his career.
Vanansio Babweyaka was born on October 20, 1949, to Yohana Nyamurya and Evalina Kokyenga in Rwakayundo cell, Bushuura Ward, Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda district. His parents had seven children, and three are still alive, namely Loy Zaribwende, Rwanzigu Posiano, and Deudanta Gararengana. He is survived by his wife, Melania Babweyaka, and 10 children (3 boys and 7 girls), 42 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Notably, Vanansio Babweyaka is also an uncle to Libino Byamukama, a journalist with Eye Television and Hope Radio.
It is suspected that Vanansio Babweyaka succumbed to cancer at Mulago Hospital on Friday, May 16, 2025. He was a businessman who started his career in designing and tailoring clothes before venturing into timber and hostels, and later opted for tree planting and animal farming.
Speaking at the funeral mass, which was held at his ancestral home in Bushuura Ward, Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda district, where he was laid to rest on May 19, 2025, Ruhakana Rugunda described Vanansio as a person who supported many individuals in pursuing education, demonstrating his commitment to empowering others. Rugunda added that Babweyaka actively participated in fundraising efforts, including seeking financial support from his friends in Kampala for the construction of Rwakayundo Catholic Church, his home church in Hamuhambo Town Council. Rugunda encouraged the public to emulate Babweyaka’s legacy of loving all and helping the needy, showcasing his impact on the community. He also thanked Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba for maintaining stability in the district, which has led to development.
The family, led by his wife Melania Babweyaka, described the deceased as a person who loved and promoted unity among them. Rubanda West MP Hon. Kamuntu Moses Mwongyera described the late Vanansio as a person who employed many Ugandans in his projects. Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba highlighted Babweyaka’s unwavering support and love for Rubanda District and its people, praising him for being a person who never showed sides in politics and loved everyone, regardless of their affiliations.
During the requiem mass on the evening of May 18, State Minister for Finance, General Duties, Hon. Henry Musasizi, and Commissioner of Parliament Akampurira Mbabazi Prossy described the late Vanansio as a person who employed many and promoted peace in his area.
