The Kampala City tycoon Moses Kalungi, known as Bill Gates, has been arrested over allegations that he fraudulently transferred the land title of the late Dr. Kasasa in Mengo.
It is reported that Kalungi was arrested by officials from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit on Wednesday and he is being held at CPS Kampala and will be produced in court soon.
What caused his arrest?
It is said that Kalungi’s arrest followed complaints from the family of the late Dr. Muhammad Buwule Kasasa after they discovered irregularities in a botched sale of their property that Mr. Kalungi transferred the land tittle colluding with brokers and staff at the Ministry of Lands.
Sources in the task force told our reporter that Kalungi has been arrested and they are still investigating his statements to verify their truth. And if he is found guilty, the case will be forwarded to court.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire, confirmed that Kalungi is being held at CPS police, and that his case is being investigated a serious crimes division of Police.
The disputed land is in Mengo on Block 4 plots 200 and 2002 and also on Block 4 plots 936 and 938. They were registered in the names of Dr. Kasasa’s seven children, but they are surprised how it ended up in Kalungi’s names and he even demolished the building that was on the land.
The disputed land covers two streets, with one side bordering Sanyu Babies home (children orphanage) in Namirembe and the other side on Butikiro Road near Lubaga Road.
The title deed that our reporter saw shows that it was in the names of Kasasa’s children including Dauda Ddamu, Sarah Nabwule, Nulu Nakabonge, Sophia Nambalirwa, Janet Nakawunde, Idat Naddamba, and Faridah Zabali, but it was transferred to Moses Kalungi’s names in December 2025, then transferred again from Kalungi’s names to “Nalukolongo Packaging Industries Kampala” in January 2026.
The administrators of Kasasa’s children, led by Dr. Nulu Nakabonge who lives in the UK, allege that when the title was transferred, their signatures were forged, and when they checked the thumbprints, they were fake, which is against the law. That’s why they took the matter to court and complained to State House among other areas seeking redress.
The matter did not stop at the Anti-Corruption task force; they also took it to the task force that fights land grabbing and environmental degradation, headed by Brig. Gen. Moses Lukyamuzi.
Last month, Kalungi appeared in court and argued with Dr. Kasasa’s children. It is also said that he entered the disputed building with thugs and they damaged some TVs and other property, causing loss for several days.
This land was bought in 1974 by the late Kasasa, who died in June 2024, from the late Walusimbi Mpanga, former Mayor of Kampala, and he put it in the names of some of his children.
Mr. Kalungi remains in trouble until this case is disposed of since the owners did not sale the property and they want it back. It is so surprising that he has already transferred the tittle to one or two names.
