The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has concluded his working visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he held discussions with the country’s top military and political leaders including President Félix Tshisekedi.

During his visit, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba met with senior officials of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, led by his counterpart, Lt Gen Jules Banza Mwilambwe, to review ongoing joint military operations particularly Operation Shujaa.

The two Generals later signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation between their forces in combating terrorism and securing the shared border.

Gen Kainerugaba was later received by President Tshisekedi at the Palais de la Nation where they discussed broader matters relating to bilateral relations between Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Before his departure, Lt Gen Mwilambwe hosted an exclusive dinner in honor of Gen Kainerugaba’s visit which was attended by senior Democratic Republic of Congo commanders and Congolese government officials.

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba was seen off at N’djili International Airport by Lt Gen Jules Banza Mwilambwe and other high-ranking military and government officials at the end of his trip.

This visit marks another milestone in the growing military and diplomatic ties between Kampala and Kinshasa, as both countries intensify efforts to stabilize the volatile eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and the East African region at large.
