NTUNGAMO- The Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has revealed plans to establish communal irrigation systems for farmers in western Uganda region to spur Agro production in the area.
The president says the initiative will be implemented communally to ensure that farmers survive dry spells with steady production cycles as he reminded them on proper wetland use.
The president says the impact of the improved water system will multiply banana production by over 10% from 5 to 50 tones citing the presidential banana development initiative.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni told leaders in western Uganda to Stop politics of deceit and tell the people to focus on wealth creation for their social-economic transformation.
The president notes that the government annually disburses 1.5 trillion shillings that aggregates to 7 trillion shillings in 5 years for wealth creation interventions.
He cites areas with good roads and forms of development but people haven’t prioritized wealth creation and this has left them stuck in poverty.
During the same tour, the president directed the army to start making animal feeds to sustain supplies to farmers.
He directed the minister for ICT and National Guidance Dr Chris Baryomunsi to coordinate the initiative adding that the private sector will only complement the program.
Then president asked leaders in Ntungamo district to identify land for mass planting trees and iron ore development initiative.
He identified an interested investor who intends to partner with locals in Western region to supply inputs to the identified investor Chelin Partel.
The project is expected to make over 3 million USD annual return over and to employ over 1500 people.
The First Jannet Kataha Museveni advised the project be focused for Ntungamo district due to the vast land available on the areas hill tops
Leaders in western then called on the electorate to Harness all the 7 pillars of the parish development model program instead of only focusing on the financial pillar alone.

She was accompanied by the Ntungamo Municipality Mp Yonah Musinguzi who called for construction of a USMID market in Ntungamo district and ensuring through Electricity distribution to all households.
The president also reminded elected leaders of their roles.
