NEWS- The Ruhinda South County Member of Parliament Hon Capt. Donozio Mugabe Kahonda has announced that the government is in final plans to avail funds for the operationalization of Nyakizinga Seed Secondary School in the coming financial year 2024/2025.
Honorable Kahonda made the announcement on Friday May 10th 2024 as he officiated at the commissioning of the first phase of Mayanga piped water project in Mayanga Sub County, Ruhinda South County in Mitooma District.
The legislator noted that the development is the government’s master plan to ensure equitable and accessible education at the sub county level.
Kahonda commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for fostering development in the country emphasizing that programs like Emyooga and PDM are aimed at alleviating households from poverty adding that such a water project will also help the community on reducing expenditure in health facilities treating illnesses related with stealthy water.
The Parliamentarian commended Nexus green for the excellent implementation of the projected projects in ensuring value for money and asked the community to ensure proper usage and safeguarding this water to serve the intended purpose.
He retaliated to the leaders’ call to residents to ensure coffee growing since it’s a lucrative source of income.
He was grateful to the security heads for ensuring community policing that has been essential in maintaining peace in the community, accounting for the reduced number of cases in Mitooma District as a whole.
Kahonda also rallied residents to go for population Census since it’s the basis for the country to plan for its people and used the opportunity to announce that the government has given an additional Ugx 50M per Parish under PDM to help in ensuring positive movement.
Merrycent Abiine, the Mitooma District deputy Resident Commissioner stressed that leaders have done their part in lobbying for the projects adding that it’s now their role to ensure taking care of them right away from the inauguration process till they are handed over.
Abiine noted that the cooperation between the leaders has been key in ensuring service delivery in Mitooma and hailed the church for availing the land to ensure these projects are given priority.
Rev Kennedy Mwikirize, Mayanga Church of Uganda Parish priest pointed out that the church welcomes government’s development agendas stressing once people are empowered, the church is as well empowered.
Rev Mwikirize representing the institution that donated the land where the project is being installed added that it’s very prudent seeing the Church working together with the government to ensure development especially at the household level asserting that it’s the only means that Ugandans will enjoy their country.
The Priest who expressed gratitude to the government’s initiative told the Mitooma district leaders present at the function that water was being sold at Ugx 1000 a jerrycan, stressing that the development will now reduce the community’s expenditure on water.
The Mayanga Sub County Chairman Lawrence Karwani hailed the district leadership for choosing his sub county for many projects that are according to his area as well as the church for facilitating these projects with land.
Karwani asked for more assistance from these leaders to work on Munyanyangi bridge and the one that connects Mayanga to Nyakizinga at Katizi stream and Rwitanzi that connects Mayanga to Ntungamo District since they are all gateways and essential in accessing markets for agricultural products from the sub county.
The Sub County boss hinted on need for more culverts in most roads to ensure that they are motorable in all the seasons and was quick to add that the sub county has more vast land to facilitate numerous other projects if the government can avail them.
Juliet Agasha Bashiisha, represented by promised to follow up on the requests for action in addition to what she has already done in supporting women groups, lobbying for different community needs on top of fully representing them on the national scene.
The project is being implemented by a Non-Governmental organization Nexus green that so far has 687 contracts to implement countrywide.
The Mitooma District Chairman Benon Karyeija aka Boneza noted that this piped water will need residents’ input inform of unit payment not exceeding Ugx 50 to facilitate its sustainability and extension to other areas for community benefit.
Karyaija is optimistic that this Ugx 50 unit cost will as well push people to work so that they can get what to facilitate their families for a better living. He also rallied people to ensure harvesting rain water with both aerial and underground tanks to reduce expenditure on water and be sure of availability of safe and clean water.
The district boss went on to advise the community to work towards boosting their social economic welfare especially through coffee growing as this will help them live better lives.
Samule Ainebyoona the Mayanga Seed Secondary School head teacher who hosted the delegation asked the leaders to think about more funding to revamp the school since the enrollment has now grown past 900.
