Suspected gun thief

NEWS- The joint security team in Kisoro District have arrested a suspect who allegedly stole an SAR rifle from a security guard at Pearl Hotel Kabale.

A joint patrol of Police, UPDF and Uganda Wildlife Authority team intercepted Hakizimana Emmanuel also known as Zulunguriye Black, with SAR Rifle No. 564 210028-15120 at Kashaija village in Rubuguri Town Council in Kisoro District.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that the team of security who were on motorized patrol met with the said suspected person and on stopping the car, he started running and they chased him and arrested him.

Maate explained that on arresting him  he was found with the gun and it was later established that the same gun was the one stolen from Security Guard of Ruhama Veterans known as  Byonanebye Osbert who was guarding at  Pearl Hotel at Kigongi Cell, Central Division of Kabale Municipality on 10th April 2025.   

By the time of theft of the rifle it had 2 two bullets and on recovery it had only one ammunition and on further found out that the suspect had been a habitual criminal and in 2021 he was released from Ndorwa Prison in Kabale on charges of robbery. 

It is reported that in 2022 he broke into Mutanda Lake Hotel and stole items from the tourists which included money, cameras and a phone and was arrested and taken to Kisoro Central Police Station, was taken to court and  later  discharged from court due to lack of   evidence, since the tourists (victim) had  gone back to their countries of origin and could not appear in court to testify against him.

During the month of March 2024, the susoect stole clothes of Detective Corpal Tumuramye Roddny from Kisoro Police Barracks and was arrested putting them on, was taken to court and he was charged, convicted and fined to pay a fine of Ugx 250,000 which he paid and he was set free.

During the month of December on 16th 2024, the same person was found cooking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by the joint patrol of UPDF and Uganda WildlifeAuthority and  ran away leaving his documents which included National IDs and photos which were taken to 35th battalion  Nyakabande.

According to Maate, the suspect is to be transferred to UPDF 2nd Division Headquarters in Mbarara for further management, since his case involved stealing a gun and being a habitual offender.
