Destroyed plantation

NEWS– Four families in 8 villages in Magambo and Ryeru sub counties in Rubirizi district are counting losses after heavy hailstorm destroyed their houses, equipment and over 500 households lost their gardens and crops.

Some of the affected villages are Nyakihanda, Butoha, Nyangorogoro, Kanyara, Busonga in 3 parishes of Bugaya, Butoha and Ndekye 1 in Ndekye parish.

According to Madam Beinomugisha Sylvia, one of the affected resident of Nyakihanda says that this was after a heavy down pour that last four close to two hours over the weekend leading to collapse of as well as affecting their gardens including banana plantations, Cassava and bean gardens as well as other house properties.

Beinomugisha points out that most of them have nowhere to sleep even nowhere to go for long calls since their latrine was also destroyed.

She now wants the district leadership headed by the Rubirizi Member of Parliament, district chairperson, CAO, RDC and district councilors to usher them with a helping hand stressing that they are currently living miserable lives without anything to eat.

“It’s unfortunate that rains have devastated our plantations and households, some of us have nowhere to sleep, what to eat and we have loans to recover since some had gotten PDM funds to maintain their gardens” she said.

According to Mukama Lawrence, Madam Ntorine Ketty, other affected residents of Nyangorogoro one village, the heavy rains left them nowhere to sleep or what to east since they houses and plantations fell victims of the tragedy.

They now want the government to help and provide them with relief food, seedlings, ironsheets as well as cash to replace their houses that were destroyed.

Meanwhile, Kakama Joel Jawadu the Magambo sub county Chairperson advised residents to plant trees around their houses to break the wind and stop running water.

Kakama adds that Magambo Sub County leaders have already submitted the report from affected community to the district authorities to prepare submission to the Office of the Prime Minister and relevant Ministries especially that of disaster and preparedness for support.

They have asked the community to embrace government program accept to be registered so that they can help them look for support.
