NEWS- Authorities at Rukungiri Municipal Council have welcomed the Homeklin Uganda Company that was awarded the contract of garbage collection in Rukungiri municipality with the aim of keeping it clean always.
Rukungiri Municipality leaders expressed gratitude for the revival of garbage collection that will be done by the contracted company which had become a burden due to machinery breakdowns.
While officiating at the function of welcoming the contractor, Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Rukungiri, warned residents to refrain from sabotaging the contractor responsible for garbage collection to avoid legal repercussions.
The function took place at the Rukungiri Municipal Council hall.
Home Klin Uganda Limited specializes in garbage collection and operates in Mbarara, Iganga, Mityana, Entebbe, Mubende and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). They enroll service recipients in an electronic system and issue electronic receipts for a fixed fee over the negotiated period.
As one way to sensitise residents across Rukungiri municipality, the Municipal Council conducted a drive across the town to inform residents about the new garbage collection system as an executive order mandated by the President though residents seem not welcoming the initiative claiming it will not favor them.
Ahimbisibwe emphasized that the policy was ordered by the President, stating that security agencies are involved and that no one should sabotage the initiative in their presence. He urged the implementers to ignore any diversionary tactics and advised contractors to avoid exercising excessive power.
His Worship Charles Makuru, the Mayor of Rukungiri Municipal Council, expressed relief at the alleviation of the burdensome garbage collection task.
He urged the implementers to remain vigilant to avoid dismissal for failing to execute government directives and expressed gratitude for the funds saved from garbage collection, which will be allocated for street lights.

Prosper Tagobya the Deputy Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipal Council called upon the Municipality community to cooperate with the contractor and to always report challenges for prompt resolution.
Tagobya further revealed that residents will be paying garbage collection fees of three thousand shillings (sh .3000) and above depending on the garbage in possession. He warned urban dwellers against throwing garbage on the road side.
Mr. Isaac Katureebe, the Director of Home Klin Uganda Limited, urged the Municipal Council authorities to enhance sensitization efforts for the adoption of the new system and to enforce compliance where necessary, assuring residents of quality service.
Health Inspectors Asiimwe Evas and Shallon Kiconco called on the public to embrace garbage collection guidelines to ensure cleanliness and development within their town.
