KAMPALA- The Inspector General of Government- IGG has launched an initiative of installing the anti-corruption message big signposts at police stations in Kampala Metropolitan areas.
According to Deputy IGG Dr. Achan-Okiria, anti-corruption signposts are part of broader awareness efforts across government institutions to combat the vice which is hindering the service delivery that are meant to be free.
While meeting the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commandant, Richard Echega and other senior officers at Central Police Station-CPS, Achan, said that the police’s closest proximity to the public contributes to their high ranking in corruption tendencies, a reason why signposts with messages of no to corruption that raise awareness are very important.
“This is the reason why we have started with the police, our move is to continue reaching out to all government bodies, sensitizing and creating awareness that all services are corruption free. That’s why we started with installing these big sign posts, our numbers every police officer or a civilian coming here should know that this place is corrupt free.” Achan said.
The Deputy Inspector General of Government has expressed concern that some top police officers are still violating the Leadership Code Act by failing to declare their wealth or making false declarations.

On the side of the Police Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said he was not aware of some officer failure to declare their wealth. He however, said that anti-corruption awareness is more important among the Police officers.
According to the IGG’s 2023/24 report, Uganda lost more than 30 billion to the corrupt, but also received 21,377 complaints related to corruption demands, with 1,260 complaints being registered within Kampala Metropolitan areas, while the rest in other regions.
