KABALE- The Kigezi Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Canon Milton Nkurunungi, has urged stakeholders of Church of Uganda schools to actively engage in the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade, which plays a crucial role in shaping the future generation of the church.
Rev. Canon Nkurunungi made these remarks while officiating at the final competition of the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade competitions held at Kigezi High School primary grounds, where Kigezi First Company emerged as the winners after defeating seven rivals from eight zones of the diocese.
He emphasized that such competitions help the children to grow morally and upright in the church, urging all stakeholders to invest a lot of time in these activities to boost the future generation of the church.
Rev. Canon Nkurunungi appreciated the schools that are so far doing well in the competition but challenged them to keep the fire burning and light up the candle of the diocese. He thanked the schools’ brigade patrons for the work well done and urged them to always practice for better results.
Rev. Warren Akatwijuka the diocesan boys and girls brigade field officer highlighted that the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade helps in promoting Children’s morals and discipline, as well as improving their self-esteem and skills through these competitions. He emphasized the importance of the competitions for the moral growth of the children.
Speaking to our reporter shortly after the competition, Nowamaziima Odesius, the Captain of First Kigezi Company Rugarama, expressed that their success was achieved by enthusiasm and determination of the pupils, as well as support from their administration.
On another note, Nowamaziima encouraged those schools that didn’t participate in these competitions to do so since the practice helps the pupils to grow firm in Christ.
The 1st Kigezi company – Rugarama, the winners and the 5th Kigezi company – Nyabirerema who emerged as the 1st runner up got a trumpet each as a gift.
