KASESE- School-going children in Kasese District want Ministry of Education and sports to incorporate environmental conservation studies into the new curriculum.
The students who participated in the climate change debt and writing competitions that was organized by Kiima foods with support from WWF held at Standard High school Nyamwamba in Kasese town said considering the importance of environmental education would promote sustainable development and addressing environmental challenges.
According to the students, human activities like sand mining along river banks needs environmentalist’s attention since it was on increase on most of the rivers in Kasese District.
Macleen Mwahulwa a student at St. Thereza Girls SS Nsenyi in Kisinga town council says if the Ministry could consider integrating environmental conservation studies into the curriculum, focusing on practical and hands-on learning experiences it would help to avert the climate changes.
Wilika Ithungu and Elvin Mumbere all students at Kamaiba Primary school in Kasese Munciapality says educating children on sustainable agricultural practices, waste management, and renewable energy sources if well implelented, it could address Climate Change.
At the competitions, St. Thereza Girls were announced the champions at the secondary levels and Kamaiba Primary school were the champions at the Primary level.
Ms. Janet Masika the project coordinator at Kima foods who appreciated the schools that competed including Kilembe ss, Kasese ss, Uganda Martys College Kyondo, Masule P/s, Mather care p/s and Kamaiba p/s asked them to be ambassadors of environmental conservation.
