bNEWS– Authorities from Kabale District, led by Ndorwa East MP Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, Kabale District Woman MP Hon. Atwakiire Catherine Ndamira, and the Ministry of Works and Transport recently launched the construction of a 6.8km Kitibrya –Mishundo –Kabanyonyi Road and a 3.5m box culvert at Kitibya on Kiruruma Stream.
The road, worth Ugx 2.2 billion, connects two sub-counties, Kyanamira and Buhaara through four cells in Ndorwa East County. The road was lobbied for by the legislators and will benefit the communities of Buhaara and Kyanamira Sub counties.
The contract, signed with M/s Kwed Construction Ltd, has a period of one year in which the contractor is expected to complete this rehabilitation of the community access roads and construction of a box culvert within this timeframe.
Speaking to our reporter, the Kyanamira Sub County LC5 Female Councilor Bridget Asinga, who also serves as the Kabale District Local Government Finance Minister, expressed concern over the temporary bridges that have been washed away by heavy rains, posing a risk to the business community and school-going children in the area.

The Kabale District Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Akakwansa Miria Tugume, urged the contractor to prioritize local labor and source construction materials from within the community.

The District Chief Administration Officer, represented by Manzi Gordon, warned the contractor against child labor and timely payment of laborers.
Manzi also cautioned the workers against engaging in romantic relationships with local women saying their office has received complaints in the past about workers taking advantage of women in the community vowing not to tolerate such behavior.

Engineer Musa Mwiine from the Ministry of Works and Transport encouraged locals to embrace the project for their benefit and noted that there will be no compensation for the 6.8km road.

The Kabale District Woman MP and the Ndorwa East Legislator pledged to rehabilitate roads and renovate health centers within Ndorwa East.
Niwagaba challenged locals to start hotels around the project for their benefit and warned them against failing the project, which they had requested.
