NEWS– Locals from Maziba Sub county Kabale district have raised a red flag over lack of Electricity in their areas despite having Maziba mini hydro power station.
They revealed this on Tuesday, 21st May 2024 while receiving a piggery project donated by the Kabale district woman Member of Parliament Hon Atwakiire Catherine Ndamira at Omukagana Primary School in Birambo and Nyanja Parishes all in Maziba Sub County.
Led by Kapeere Justus, the area parish chairperson of Birambo Parish, locals pointed out that Birambo, Kavu and Kagweru parishes have never got Electricity power connections despite them neighboring Maziba mini hydro power station.
Kapeere added that locals are incurring a lot of costs to transport metallic doors from kabale town which could have been welded from the sub county.
He expressed fear of students failing at National examinations due to lack of Electricity to help them in their studies.

At Maziba Wine Producing Factory which the president of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commissioned in June 2015 to start producing wine from Pineapples under the supervision of Uganda Industrial Research Institute, employing over 100 youths, the locals expressed concern that it’s at the verge of collapse due to continued power outages.
Kemani Robert the Chairman of a Wine Producing Factory at Maziba said that the factory is on the verge of collapsing over low power voltages which are unable to run the machines to process pineapples.
Kemani said that they used to produce 6000 liters of wine a day but due to power outages, they are producing 2000.

The duo called for government’s intervention before the situation worsens.
The Kabale district woman MP Hon Catherine Ndamira Atwakiire pledged to continue lobbying from the government until the district gets enough connection to the national grid.
Atwakiire added that she resorted to a piggery project in the district to prepare the locals to have money for Water and Electricity bills after getting fully connected.
