NEWS– Kabale Technical School in Kabale Municipality has expressed concern over the lack of a playground for sports activities, which is essential for talent identification.
This was revealed during a sports day event held at Kabale National Teachers College playground in Central Division, Kabale Municipality.
Asked why the event was held at a foreign ground, Eng. Lekuru LYdia, the institute’s principal, and her deputy, Dominic Mubangizi, lamented the lack of sufficient space on school premises to establish a playground.
They noted that this has forced students to use the nearby Rutoma Primary School playground, which is also too small to accommodate all sports activities.
According to Lydia and Mubangizi, students who are accustomed to small playgrounds struggle to compete with peers from other institutions who have access to larger facilities.
They highlighted several other challenges faced by students, including trekking long distances to nearby playgrounds, seeking permission from other schools, and sometimes hiring playgrounds.
The institute’s leadership appealed to the government to intervene and provide a large sports playground for the benefit of the students.
