The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament seat is heating up with several candidates vying for the position accusing the Kigezi Diocese of Harassment and taking sides.

Trust Kyomugisha, a journalist with Voice of Kigezi radio, Grace Bekunda, a former Ndorwa West MP contestant, and Enid Origumisiriza, a renowned preacher, are all eyeing the seat currently held by Catherine Atwakiire Ndamira.

Kyomugisha and Ankunda however accuse the Kigezi Diocese of taking sides and decampaigning them.

They claim the diocese is favoring Origumisiriza, with Kyomugisha alleging she’s been denied a platform to speak to electorates at several church services.

Ankunda points to an audio recording where Origumisiriza initially expresses support for her candidacy, only to later change her mind and announce her own bid, citing pressure from the Kigezi diocese’s elders

Origumisiriza has clarified her independent stance, dismissing claims of church endorsement. She emphasizes her focus on socio-economic transformation and service delivery in Kabale District, highlighting key areas like education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and poverty alleviation.

Bishop of the Kigezi diocese Gad Akanjuna denies the allegations, stating the church supports all its people equally and isn’t involved in political sides. He advocates for unity and harmony, viewing politics as a means to choose leaders who can effectively influence service delivery and community development.
